Society of Anaesthetists of Zambia (SAZ)
The Society of Anaesthetists of Zambia (SAZ) is a society that was set up to cater to the interests of all Anaesthesia and Critical Care providers in Zambia and carries out training and capacity building for all members and prospectives in safe Anaesthesia delivery.
Currently, there are over 250 anaesthesia providers in Zambia that include Physicians, Clinical Officers and Nurses who work tirelessly to deliver safe anaesthesia for patients undergoing surgery.
Our Aims and Objectives
- To unite Zambian Physician and non-Physician Anaesthetic and critical care providers and maintain their relationship.
- To safeguard the interests of the profession and its members.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, analyse problems and seek solutions.
- To improve access to and safety of anaesthetic provision in the country.
- To prepare and facilitate research and teaching activities.
- To encourage and facilitate continuing education to its members.
- To prepare periodical scientific forum and/or other activities of the society.
- To prepare guidelines & standards of practice, monitoring and equipment
- To create mechanisms in order to monitor the quality of anaesthesia services in the country.
- To advise governmental and non-governmental bodies on the implementation of anaesthetic practice upon request.
- To establish relationships between other societies within and outside Zambia.
- To promote public awareness about anaesthesia services.

SAZ’s impact across Zambia
Together with its partners, the Global Anaeshesia Development Partnerships (GADP) and Lifebox, SAZ has recently been able to impact over 250 anaesthesia providers in the country in the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 basic critical care training workshops organised in conjunction with the Ministry of Health (MOH).
SAZ through the support and efforts of it’s partners has been far reaching in building the capacity of nearly all anaesthesia providers in Zambia
